Sanford, Fla – SunRail is conducting overnight testing during the next few days of Positive Train Control (PTC). This will also include daytime testing this weekend. PTC is a computer technology that increases train safety. It is designed to prevent trains from going too fast and to prevent collisions between trains that are on the same track.
Drivers and passersby can expect to see a SunRail test train operating on the entire 61.5-mile Central Florida Rail Corridor (CFRC) from the DeLand Amtrak Station to the Poinciana SunRail Station. The testing lasts through early Thursday morning, Dec. 12. This is in preparation for full implementation of PTC on the entire corridor.
SunRail urges drivers to stay off the tracks at railroad crossings and that everyone, including bicyclists and pedestrians, keep a safe distance from trains and train tracks.
Be smart. Be safe.
