SunRail Reminds Central Florida To Avoid The Impact During Rail Safety Week September 18-22, 2023

Orlando, Fla. – From September 18 to 22, 2023, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and SunRail are joining other State DOTs and organizations nationwide to recognize Rail Safety Week, reminding everyone to be safe near railroad tracks and crossings. FDOT will use Rail Safety Week as another opportunity to inform Central Floridians how to Avoid the Impact of a railway collision.

SunRail’s Safety Week features an in-depth look into the psychological, emotional, financial, and physical impacts associated with a collision. “So much of what is experienced reaches beyond the individual involved in the incident,” shares John Tyler, P.E., FDOT District Five Secretary. “First responders, our passengers and crews, and even witnesses near the tracks can be changed forever by what they see.”

The week features many efforts including:

  • Increased law enforcement presence at railroad crossings distributing SunRail safety handouts and enforcing traffic laws.
  • Engaging and shareable video series on social media with SunRail crews and some of Central Florida’s finest first responders.
  • High visual, high impact outreach including digital billboards along I-4, group rides with safety presentations onboard, ambassador handouts, and more.
  • Media Availability Event – Get behind the scenes look at incident protocols, access to photos and videos, and more information about FDOT’s rail safety efforts. Download media kit.Monday, September 18, 2023: 10am – 12pm
