Sunday Storm Damage Causing System Delays

Sanford, Fla – Monday SunRail service is being affected due to damage sustained during yesterday’s storms. A high energy power line came down during storms Sunday in the Longwood area. The downed line damaged train signal and control systems from Sanford to Longwood. Some rail crossing gates are affected. Trains are traveling at reduced speeds and are being flagged (walked through) at certain crossings between Longwood and Lake Mary. This is creating SunRail train delays throughout the entire 49-mile system.

Crews are working to fix the damage and resulting outages, which are fairly extensive. The work will last throughout the day, meaning delays will persist during off-peak times today, as well as affect the afternoon peak, half hour schedule. The repair work is likely to extend into tomorrow and possibly Wednesday, and but the delays are expected to be shorter as more of the system comes back on line.
