What is a Bus Bridge? #
A “Bus Bridge” is a temporary system of shuttle buses that are put in place when trains are unable to proceed with normal operations. These buses provide a “bridge” between stations where the train is unable to travel. The buses transport passengers between the affected stations, allowing them to bypass the disrupted section of the rail line and continue their trip.
SunRail and our transit partners will help maintain passenger flow when rail service is temporarily suspended as safely and efficiently as possible.
When is a Bus Bridge necessary? #
A Bus Bridge may be used when SunRail trains are experiencing an unplanned interruption in service that prevent trains from traveling between impacted stations.
What happens during a Bus Bridge? #
During a Bus Bridge, riders exit the train at the impacted station and board designated LYNX or VoTran buses. These buses transport riders around the affected segment of the rail line and take them to the next station where regular train service is operating. Once there, riders simply board the next available train to continue their trip. The Bus Bridge will remain in place until normal train service can safely resume.
What buses/shuttles are used as a Bus Bridge? #
Bus Bridge service is free for SunRail riders and is provided by regional transit partners LYNX and VoTran. Look for buses displaying “SunRail” and marked Northbound or Southbound for your direction of travel.
